What is a Sleep Doula?

A Sleep Doula is an experienced doula who provides physical, emotional, and educational support to families with sleep problems. The Sleep doula provides the parents with information and options, enabling them to make informed decisions about how to get their child sleeping through the night. Unlike other sleep consultants, The Sleep Doula will not only help create an individual sleep plan for the child but will also walk the parents through the plan together in person or by phone or email, regardless of the time of day or night.

Does the Sleep Doula use one specific method over another?

No – What works for one child may not work for another. A Sleep Doula works with the individual family and assesses their needs, comforts, and limits, and suggests techniques that will work best for their child. Many times a combination of different methods and techniques works better than just choosing one method over another.

What type of services does the Sleep Doula offer?

The Sleep Doula offers a variety of services to meet your family’s individual needs. They include:

  • Sleep Consultation – A Sleep Doula will do an individual one-on-one consultation with you and your partner, where they will assess and evaluate your pre-filled questionnaire and sleep log. They will help you prepare a sleep plan, and offer you tips on effectively implementing the plan. The consultation also includes 3 days of phone & email support. Click here for fees.

  • In Home Support – Teaching your child to sleep through the night can be emotionally & physically exhausting. Can I do the sleeping training myself?

Of course you can! Over 80 % of all sleep problems can be solved by parents themselves. We are just extra support to make it easier for both you and your child

I have tried getting my child to sleep through the night it didn’t work for us; do you still think you can help?
We would love the opportunity to try. Many times parents are inconsistent, or don’t see the progress so they give up on following a sleep plan through.

What is the best age for your service?

We help familes with children from 4 months to 10 years. It is important to check with your doctor, that there is no medical reason for your child’s sleep habits, before beginning any sleep training.

My baby is only 6 weeks old, and I am so exhausted, I think I need a Sleep Doula, can we start now?

Although we do not suggest using the services of a Sleep Doula before 4 months, we do offer postpartum doula support at night to get you some well deserved rest. Although it is still early for them to be sleeping through the night, we can assist you in helping your baby develop good sleep habits and associations that will ultimately create a smoother transition for the child to sleep through the night. Reliable, experienced Doulas are available on a regular or occasional basis to provide respite to tired parents. For more information and to learn more about postpartum doulas click here.

How successful have you been?

There has yet been a family that we have not been able to help. Some of our families have gone from 6 hours of non-continuous sleep a night to 10-12 hours of continuous sleep. Our families found their children to be healthier and happier after using our service.

How long will take to get my child sleeping through the night?

Depending on the method that you choose to use, it usually takes anywhere from 2-5 nights to notice a major difference. Families need to be reminded that we work as a team, so that consistence on both of our parts is important to implement a plan most effectively.

I have a toddler who is ready to switch to a bed, can you help?

The transition from crib to bed is a big step for both child and parent, we can assist you in making this transition as smooth as possible even if your child still is experiencing sleep troubles already.

My child is nearly 10 and is still not sleeping through the night, Is it to late?

It"s never too late to teach your child to have healthy sleep habits. We offer you a variety of stategies that work great for older children and give you the confidence to follow through with setting the limits. We also incorporate the child into the consultation so we can work directly with their fears and concerns.
